Can I change my laptop fan

Small business owners have found freedom and mobility through the use of laptop computers. But for all the benefits a laptop brings to the operation of your business, it can prove to be just as detrimental if your data is lost at the hands of an overheated processor. If your laptop is running too hot, the first thing to do is make sure its vents arent obstructed by dust, which is the most common cause of thermal problems. If clearing them doesnt do the trick, you might want to try increasing the speed of the CPU fan.

Select "Control Panel" from the Start menu.

Click Hardware and Sound, and then Power Options. A new window opens.

Click Change Plan Settings, and then Change Advanced Power Settings. The Power Options dialog box opens.

Select the Advanced Settings tab.

Click the plus symbol associated with Processor Power Management to open an options submenu.

Select System Cooling Policy from the submenu.

Click the down arrow under System Cooling Policy to reveal a drop-down menu.

Select Active from the drop-down menu to increase the speed of your CPUs cooling fan.

Click Apply and then OK.

Tips

  • In spite of its name, a laptop should never be operated on your lap or any other place that obstructs the flow of air underneath the unit.
  • Regularly clean the dust from your laptops fan vent [on the bottom of the computer] and its side vents to ensure the best possible air flow.

Warnings

  • If you believe your laptop is still running hot after you've increased the fan speed, it likely has a more serious problem that might require a new cooling assembly and/or the help of a professional. Keep usage to a minimum until the problem is resolved.
