I'm a light user of RDC and it usually works OK when I need it - but FOUR updates in less than 30 days [8.0.27 on Mar. 15, 8.0.28 on Mar. 21, 8.0.29 on Mar. 31, 8.0.30 on Apr. 08], its annoying. Come on M$, get your act together!

  • I am not sure what you mean by remote desktop client..  Remote desktop is installed out of the box on all windows instances

  • Try:

    Text

    msiexec /i c:\temp\installer.msi /passive

    Replace c:\temp\installer.msi with the actual path. I got a UAC prompt doing it that way, but it installed.

  • did you try the install command MS lists

    //docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/remote/remote-desktop-services/clients/windowsdeskto...

    Batchfile

    msiexec.exe /I /qn ALLUSERS=1

    it looks like its just a standard MSI install package

    it would seem like a normal MSI package, however when I use msiexec with only the /i parameter for even just a normal install, the specific message I get is

    Text

    This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package.

    EDIT: looks like I was using PowerShell and with it I was specifying the package as .\packagename.msi. it works without the .\

  • sounds like you are using an incorrect path to the msi or you have the msi on a network share and msiexec can't access the share

    put the msi somewhere local on the test machine like c:\temp\mis and use that path to test

    thanks! I just figured it out after running it in the Command Prompt and it worked there... I was originally using PowerShell and using the .\ prefix to the filename of the .msi and that looks to have caused issues!

If you need to use a remote computer lab, your instructor will list web addresses on your D2L course site. [Learn more about D2L.] Be sure to use the web address for connecting to remote computers via desktop application. Connecting via web browser uses a different web address.
