Now, hush, my child. Lazy Lily Fansubs is still technically a blog, and I, your boy [or girl, you fetishists, you!] SHiN, happens to own this blog. And besides, I want to do something on my free time. Anyway, I’m currently collecting all Gundam SEED MG kits, so if I’m going to review more kits, you’re going to see lots of SEED kit.
Before I begin, this isn’t an extensive review of a gunpla kit because of several reasons: Some kits are a pain to put into poses, or it’s hard posing the kit back to my preferred pose, so you’ll be only be seeing one picture of the kit. I’ll try to provide the essential information as much as possible, but yeah, think of these as casual reviews. Oh and don’t mind the dust!
The Freedom 2.0 is my eight MG kit and there’s a lot to like about the design, construction, and overall appearance. However, the kit isn’t perfect because of the inconsistent structural integrity of the inner frame, poorly-designed armor pieces, and weak parts.
PROS:
- Easy but fun construction. The inner frame isn’t that complicated with straightforward design of the torso, arms and legs.
- Freedom 2.0 looks fucking beautiful. Massive wings, massive guns, great color separation of the parts gives the kit shelf presence.
- Articulation is great. You can pretty much give the Freedom 2.0 in any pose you want with the double joints on the torso for a good ab crunch, decent bends side to side, okay arms, leg joints can be extended outward for more movement out of the legs.
CONS:
- The wings were kind of complicated and tiresome to build, and it wasn’t the best part in my experience.
- Unneeded wing cannon design. If you’re looking for a kit that’s faithful to the anime, the Freedom 2.0 isn’t it because the cannons can be extended and the sides can be opened to reveal some exhaust vents. You need to paint those vents.
- The joints suck. The inner frame isn’t made of ABS plastic and with the lack of polycaps, the joints feel inconsistent—the left shoulder joint and the left leg joint are very loose, and at some angles the arm couldn’t handle the weight of the shield. Same goes for the left leg. The railgun joints are weak too. I only did a few poses with the railgun extended and I already see the plastic cracking.
- The inner frame doesn’t feel solid. Parts creak and the kit wobbles a lot when you try to move it around.
- Posing is limited without an action stand or base. The wings are very heavy and with the loose joints, the Freedom 2.0 will have trouble standing on its own, let alone standing in a dynamic pose.
- The design of the shoulder armor sucks. It’s ugly and hollow without any detail, or anything to cover up the peg and joints. And for some reason, the shoulder armor gets caught in the torso when you try to rotate the arms.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
The Freedom 2.0 is an amazing kit overall and has massive shelf presence, but it’s not the kind of kit you want to make poses often. It’s creaky, wobbly, and doesn’t feel solid—a bump could ruin the pose. If you’re careful and only pose your kits once every 2-3 months, then you’ll be happy with the Freedom 2.0.
