Needs more

Love the story so far I wish they would have more episodes. We can tell they want to start a romantic relationship with Mai and Haruhiko just need to make more episodes to make that happen. Great characters another anime filled with Waifu's 😂😀😃

Seasons/Episodes: 13

Synopsis: You can’t believe everything you see, or can’t see, for that matter. In Musaigen no Phantom World, Phantoms, beings that blur the line between illusion and reality, wander around right under the noses of unsuspecting humans. Their origins are mysterious and few can see themーthat is, until a research facility bombing spreads a virus that grants the ability to. Humans with special powers are given the task of sealing the troublemaking Phantoms. Haruhiko Ichijou is one such Phantom Hunter. Not a very good one, however. Possessing a wealth of useless knowledge, a tendency to go off on tangents, and a rather slow Phantom-sealing ability, he and his rambunctious teammate Mai Kawakami are at the bottom of the Phantom Hunter ladder at Hosea Academy. In order to become stronger, they recruit new teammates and develop new powers, only to stumble upon secrets surrounding Phantoms and the circumstances surrounding the mysterious bombing of the Alayashiki Research Facility.

Plot Rating: 5/10

I honestly don’t think this show had an actual plot, but rather an abundance of unnecessary “plot” if you get what I mean. The fan service was through the roof on this one. Normally I don’t mind a bit of fan service and if this were meant to be an ecchi anime maybe it would’ve fit more, but as it was for this show, it was too much. They were tasked with sealing demons, but I feel like the action was lacking. Honestly, the only episodes I can say had any serious plot was the last 2 and that’s where it got really good. If the rest had been like those final 2 episodes, I probably would’ve liked this more.

Character Development Rating: 7/10

We got an episode to develop each character which was nice, but that’s about it in this department. The characters themselves were decent, the best girl being between Koito and Reina.

Progression Rating: 7/10

I suppose the pacing was fine, but the scant plot that there was didn’t go anywhere really until the final few episodes.

Animation Rating: 10/10

The one thing KyoAni never lets you down with, it was beautiful.

Conclusion Rating: 8/10

Much better ending than the rest of the anime and actually makes me feel like I’d be willing to watch a season 2. Enigma saved the show honestly.

Technical Overall Rating [based on average of above ratings]: 7.4/10

*This rating is unbiased and based completely on the honest ratings for each category and so may often be lower than my personal rating. This is the rating you’d probably like to go by when deciding if you’ll watch a series or not, unless my explanation for my personal rating of why it deserved a better rating is one you agree with

Personal Overall Rating [based solely on my personal enjoyment]: 7.5/10

*This rating is totally biased and based completely on my personal feelings of the anime. This will often be higher than the technical rating because sometimes I love certain series despite them being kind of bad. My reasons for the higher rating will often be given here or in the GC.

Should You Watch: If you want a kind of funny show with cute girls, little plot and beautiful animation, sure.

General Comments: I wanted to like this so much more than I did because it’s KyoAni, but it fell short unfortunately. It wasn’t the worst anime I’ve watched this season, but it definitely wasn’t a favorite by a long shot. It was just ok and managed to scrape by just enough to convince me to watch a second season if there is one. I think it had a promising concept, but they chose to make it a fan-serviced, slapstick comedy then take it seriously. If there is a season 2, let’s hope they get serious about the plot and it reaches the level those last 2 episodes did. Perhaps that will give it some redemption.
