Honda is on a tear lately with its new product onslaught. Hot on the heels of the new Civic and HR-V, Honda revealed the next-gen 2023 CR-V. Show With a hybrid version and lots of tech, there are some interesting things going on with this compact SUV. Here are the six things you need to know. Rugged new designThe design of the 2023 Honda CR-V takes some cues from the rugged TrailSport versions of the Passport and Ridgeline. It has some stronger horizontal lines along the side, and the taillights have a Volvo-esque look to them. The new CR-V is 2.7 inches longer, which adds more interior volume for cargo and passengers. Hybrid is the top powertrainThe base powertrain will be an updated 190-horsepower, 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. The up-level powertrain is the hybrid, and the intention is to give a sportier driving dynamic. Thus it will be standard on the top two trims. The hybrid system will consist of a two-motor hybrid electric system and a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine. Combined power output is 204 horsepower. Honda expects total sales of the hybrid to account for 50% of annual sales. The gas-only versions of the 2023 CR-V will the streets this summer, with the hybrid versions showing up later in 2022. There are only 4 trimsFor the 2023 Honda CR-V, the lineup gets simplified. Currently there are five gasoline trims and three hybrid trims. For this next-gen model, there are only four trims total and the bottom two trims are the gasoline model while the top two trims are hybrid-only. So, you have the EX and EX-L as the base gas-only trims; the Sport and Sport Touring are the hybrid-only trims. Lots of device charging optionsThankfully, Honda realizes its 2022, and the new CR-V will have a multitude of device charging locations and options. The front passengers will have both 2.5A USB-A and 3.0A USB-C chargers with, get this, a cubby area that will fit two smartphones side by side. The EX-L and Sport Touring trims will get standard wireless charging, and Sport and Sport Touring models will have standard USB-C charge ports in the rear. Available wireless Carplay/AutoThe 2023 Honda CR-V will have two available infotainment screen sizes – the 7-inch screen will be standard on EX and Sport models, while the EX-L and Sport Touring will get the up-level 9-inch screen. The larger screen also gets wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – along with that wireless charging. Safety is standardHonda always places a huge emphasis on safety in its vehicles, so it makes sense that the Honda Sensing safety suite is standard on all models. New for 2023, the CR-V gets improved side-impact protection, new front airbags, standard front knee airbags, improved collision prevention and standard blind-spot monitoring. New available features include traffic jam assist, low-speed braking control and traffic sign recognition. Adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist have also been improved for a more natural response feel. The bottom line on the 2023 Honda CR-VWhile there hasn’t been any word on pricing just yet, we expect it to come soon with the arrival of these vehicles being imminent – I mean it’s summer right now. For comparison’s sake, the current CR-V has a base price of $28,045 with the hybrid starting at $33,255. We don’t envision a huge price hike here, so expect the 2023 Honda CR-V to start under $30k. Will 2023 CRHonda has reworked the CR-V lineup for 2023, distilling it into four trim levels. The EX and EX-L are gas-only models.
