Will there be a 2023 Chevy Tahoe?

A Serious Techy. Chevrolet offers the 2023 Tahoe with some serious tech features. For the new model year, the large SUV is now available with Super Cruise. Chevrolet hasn’t announced pricing for the 2023 Tahoe yet, but we expect the hands-free driver-assist system to be available on the Premier and High Country trims as part of expensive packages. With the addition of Super Cruise, the Tahoe now has a party piece that a lot of its competitors can’t match.

Beyond the available Super Cruise system, the Tahoe continues to have an impressive roster of tech features. Taking a step back, the base LS trim now comes with an 8-inch touchscreen with Chevrolet’s Infotainment 3 system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a six-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, and satellite radio.

LT trims and higher come with a 10.2-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and built-in Google compatibility. The large SUV is also available with two 12.6-inch rear displays. Even in the large SUV segment, which is filled with competitors that have high-tech features, the Tahoe stands out as having some of the most advanced tech.

Cavernous Interior. With an overall length of 210.7 inches, the Tahoe isn’t a small SUV. While the Tahoe is a difficult SUV to drive and park, it makes up for it with a generous amount of interior space.

The Tahoe may not be able to match a minivan when it comes to being able to ferry passengers and cargo, but it’s still a great showing for an SUV. The base LS offers seating for up to nine, while the rest of the lineup can seat between seven and eight. All three rows are comfortable for adults with the third row offering 36.7 inches of legroom, which matches some midsize sedans. The second-row seats slide forward and backward for extra space for those in the third row.

In addition to offering a roomy cabin for passengers, the Tahoe also holds more cargo than most of its rivals. Behind the third row, the Tahoe offers 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space. Folding the rear seats down opens cargo capacity up to 72.6 cubic feet. In total, the Tahoe offers an impressive 122.9 cubic feet of cargo space.

Stick With A V8. The 2023 Tahoe will be available with three engines. We think the V8s are the best engines for most passengers, though the diesel is a compelling option.

The Tahoe’s powertrain lineup starts off with a 5.3-liter V8 engine that makes 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The next engine in line is a 6.2-liter V8 engine that makes 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Both engines provide the Tahoe with an ample amount of performance, but the larger V8 motor brings a more serious punch and a brawny sound that we associate with a muscle car. Both V8 engines come with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Chevrolet continues to offer the Tahoe with a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine. It’s rated at 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It has an impressive amount of torque to feel peppy off the line and delivers a respectable 24 mpg combined. We like the diesel engine’s performance and especially its fuel economy, but prefer the overall grunt with the V8 engines. Plus, getting to the Tahoe’s maximum towing capacity of 8,400 pounds requires the base 5.3-liter V8.

Luxury Prices. With a starting price tag of $53,695 [with destination], the Tahoe isn’t ridiculously expensive. Move up to the range-topping High Country trim and add a few packages, and you’re nearly into luxury territory. A fully loaded Tahoe runs above $90,000. That encroaches into Cadillac Escalade, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Land Rover Range Rover, and Mercedes-Benz GLS territory.

For an SUV that’s flirting with high-end options, the Tahoe doesn’t come standard with lane change alert, blind-spot monitoring, or rear cross-traffic alert. These features are part of the $495 Driver Alert Package on the LS trim. Getting these features in the LT, Z71, and RST trims requires getting the $2,525 Luxury Package. To get things like a surround-view camera, a head-up display, and rear pedestrian alert, you’ll have to move up to the Premier trim and tack on pricey packages. It’s a similar situation with adaptive cruise control and reverse automatic emergency braking, which is only available on the High Country trim with an available $5,055 package.

Those luxury SUVs make a statement with their designs. The Tahoe certainly stands out in a parking lot, but it doesn’t have the same high-end appeal as the luxury SUVs it attempts to imitate. The front-end design of the Tahoe has a polarizing look with c-shaped daytime running lights outlining a split grille that sits high up on the front fascia. We think the GMC Yukon’s design is more appealing.

Final Thoughts. Not much changes for the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe, but that’s not a bad thing. The large SUV continues to be one of the better options in the segment with its roomy cabin, stout engines, comfortable ride, and impressive infotainment system. With the addition of Super Cruise, the Tahoe adds a feature you won’t find on most of its available competitors. It’s pricey, but for consumers that aren’t interested in a minivan, few SUVs are as family-friendly as the Tahoe.

For a General Motors product that feels upscale, check out the GMC Yukon. It’s nearly identical to the Tahoe, but has some nicer materials, while the available Denali trim has a unique design with even more high-end touches.

The Toyota Sequoia arrives for 2023 as a fully redesigned SUV. It features a punchy hybrid powertrain, a bold design, a highly capable TRD Pro trim, and an available 14-inch touchscreen. Doesn’t have the same roomy interior as the Tahoe, but beats the Chevy at towing with a 9,520-pound rating.
