Sửa lỗi cannot restore system mounted read only năm 2024

Hello, I am trying to backup my Windows 10 PC with rescuezilla. I have 2 internal SATA hard drives. Both nfts formatted. I want to backup C: to D:. But I always get the message that the destination drive D: is mounted "read only". So I can not create a backup. I can backup to a USB stick or an external USB drive without any problems. Only to the 2 internal SATA hard drive not. But why?

Thanks Walter

  • Hi Walter, Most likely your destination NTFS filesystem may be hibernated. One easy way to test this idea is to try selecting the 'Restart' item from the Windows shutdown menu, rather than 'Shutdown'. Then immediately boot into the Rescuezilla USB stick. It's possible to disable hibernate entirely from Windows, but that's obviously not ideal. Some reading may be interested that hibernated Windows source disks can actually cause an error when Rescuezilla v2.1.3 [and earlier] try to make a backup, but I have implemented a solution to that particular problem for Rescuezilla v2.2 [to be released late-May 2021, in other words: next week].
  • Thank you for your reply. It is indeed due to the hibernation mode. If I reboot as you suggested and then start Rescuezilla, I don't get the "read only" error message. You can also disable hibernate in Windows. Until now I use Acronis True Image and I don't have this problem. I am looking for an alternative to True Image, but the limitation described here keeps me from switching to Rescuezilla. Otherwise I find Rescuezilla very good. Walter
  • Same problem here harddisk read only mode due to hibernation.
  • I still get the hibernation message when i reboot or shutdown and then boot

Hi. I've run into this too, restart seems get things going nicely. My question is, will this also come into play during recovery? If for some reason I can't boot to windows and therefore can't restart, will my main drive be mounted in read only and I wont be able to restore to it? Main drive is M.2 if that makes a difference.

TIA

The hibernation thing doesn't come into play during a restore [which overwrites the target partition], because the restore process completely overwrites the target partition, whether or not it was hibernated.

In other words, if the backup image was made successfully [displayed no errors] because the NTFS filesystem was not hibernated then your restore is expected to work fine.

When restoring a backup to the mounted file system that has previously been used successfully, I encounter a "permission denied" error.

Symptom

A restore has failed due to the following error:

Read-only file system.

Resolving The Problem

This can occur even if the file system is one that is routinely used for regular restores.

1. Ask your system administrators if any changes have been made to the file system.

2. If no changes were made, review the /var/log/messages file for the past few days. This log will show if any errors may have occurred that changed the status of the file system.

For example, a system received an error on the device where the file system resides. As part of normal procedure, the system re-mounted the file system as read-only. If the file system was always read-write and then changes into a read-only state, it is likely to have been dismounted and remounted [either manually or by the system]. The explanation can be found in the /var/log/messages file.

To resolve this situation, contact your system administrators and ask them to remount the file system in a read-write state.
