Windows 10 multiple desktops different icons reddit

I thought I would be able to have certain shortcuts on certain desktops but you can't, So what's the point of having multiple desktops?

I manage a lot in my day-to-day work life. When I have to work on multiple tasks at once, I can split them into different desktops.

Keep in mind, I'm someone who has like six instances of Visual Studio open at any given time, and wish I had three more monitors just to fit what I'm usually working on.10Reply

Multiple works areas. One desktop per ticket I'm working on at the time, one for communication  [email,MS Teams,Skype, and Main ticket screen ] and one for remote desktop manager for Active directory and exchange.

I keep between 4-8 open at all times. 5Reply

how do you keep tabs between desktops if something needs your attention? 2Reply1 more reply

New email notifications show up on all desktops. Skype and chat I don't actively monitor

Its a personal preference unless you are someone who needs to have dozens of windows open.5Reply

Without ability to have different desktops, I agree with you.

Some people like them as a way of handling multiple open applications, to organise their work flow, but I do not find much gain personally.

I was very disappointed with them after all they hype.4Reply

Seconded. If different desktops would allow different taskbar pinned applications, taskbar settings, desktop icons, and changing backgrounds, I think they would add value for my workflow, but as is I just don't find it a useful addition. 3Reply1 more reply

Yeah - it would be great to have one desktop for work, one for home, one for games etc.

Desktops aren't permanent desktops with different files and icons on them, they're like temporary clones of the same desktop, that you can keep things displayed in without minimizing them. Other operating systems virtual desktops work the same way, and have for twenty-five or thirty years.

Yeah - that is why it is disappointing.

The problem is If you closed said desktop. where would the shortcuts go?

They would have to be persistent desktops sort of like what exists in certain distros of Linux, but obviously with more capabilities like those mentioned in the previous post.

Virtual desktops are really nice because they separate windows. I have one assignment in each virtual desktop. Unfortunately they rewrote task view with 1803 so it's harder to use virtual desktops. Thankfully there's the four finger swipe.
