A beloved NBC crime thriller is finding massive success on Netflix. The Blacklist, which debuted on the network in 2013 and follows U.S. Navy officer turned high-profile criminal Raymond "Red" Reddington as he works with the FBI to catch his "blacklist" of mobsters, spies, and international terrorists, dropped its eighth season on the streaming platform in early October, with the new batch of episodes helping the show secure a spot on Netflix's Top 10 streaming charts.

After arriving on Netflix on Wednesday, Oct. 6, it did not take long for The Blacklist to find its way back into Netflix's streaming lists. The new batch of episodes prompted a wave of fresh eyes on the show, which helped boost The Blacklist to the No. 8 spot on the streamer's Top 10 TV shows list, where it has since climbed to the No. 7 spot ahead of Cocomelon, The Baby-Sitters Club, and Pretty Smart. It falls just behind other successful Netflix hits like director Mike Flanagan's latest title Midnight Mass and the global phenomenon Squid Game, now the streamer's biggest series launch ever. While The Blacklist hasn't yet made it to the Top 5 series on the platform, it has made it onto Netflix's Top 10 overall chart, where it ranks No. 8.

The Blacklist's success on Netflix comes ahead of the Season 9 premiere on NBC later this month, which has likely sparked renewed interest in the show as fans look to catch up on the series. Season 8 of the fan-favorite series was a major one [warning: spoilers ahead!], as it ended with the departure of a main cast member. In the Season 8 finale, series star Megan Boone left the show with her onscreen counterpart, Elizabeth "Liz" Keen, ultimately succumbing to a gunshot wound.

Boone, who starred as the fan-favorite series since the show's inception, was confirmed in June to be exiting, just a week before the season finale. Addressing her departure in a social media post following the finale, the actress said her time on The Blacklist "has been an entire life inside of my own life." She added that portraying Liz helped her "better define the world and myself, as she set out to do the same." She also thanked all of those she "shared this time with," including her fellow cast members, the crew, and guest stars.

The cast shakeup was not the only major change The Blacklist underwent as it headed into Season 8, as creator Jon Bokenkamp also left the series ahead of Season 9, which is set to feature a multi-year time jump. The Blacklist Season 9 premieres on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. Fans can prepare for the new season by rewatching Season 8 on Netflix.

October is looking to be quite an eventful month for The Blacklist fans! Not only is a new season coming to NBC, but The Blacklist season 8 is finally making its way to Netflix!

With September drawing to a close, Netflix has revealed the complete list of shows and movies set to release across the month of October 2021. After a quiet summer, fall is looking to get off to a strong start for Netflix with a wave of new releases including Netflix Originals and beloved favorites.

Among the many series set to release on Netflix in October is NBC’s veteran crime drama The Blacklist which will see its most recent season coming to Netflix early in the month, just in time for fans to catch up on the show before its season 9 premiere.

As revealed by Netflix, The Blacklist season 8 will arrive on Netflix on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021, with all 22 season 8 episodes available to stream. This is on track with the release schedule we’ve seen in past years with new seasons dropping on Netflix in the fall right around when the show’s newest season premieres on NBC.

The Blacklist season 8 Netflix release date

With The Blacklist season 9 kicking off on Oct. 21 on NBC, Netflix fans will get the chance to catch up on the show’s eighth season beginning on Oct. 6 when The Blacklist season 8 drops on Netflix. This release date comes less than four months after the season finale aired on NBC in June and gives fans about two weeks to binge season 8 on Netflix before season 9 premieres on NBC.

It's possible that "The Blacklist" Season 8 will come to Netflix in early October. That's later than usual, but maybe because the premiere date and finale date of Season 8 were pushed back to later dates than they usually occur [the season premiered on NBC last November and ended this past June], maybe the Netflix arrival has been pushed back too, for some reason.

Or maybe the show will arrive on Netflix in the middle of September like it always does, and the date just hasn't been announced yet. Sometimes Netflix doesn't announce a release date until shortly before it occurs. Fans can't be sure if either theory is correct, and the only solution is to wait and see what Netflix says in the coming months.

We do know that Season 9 premieres on NBC on Thursday, October 21. Hopefully, Season 8 arrives on Netflix well before that so fans have time to catch up before the new season premieres. In the meantime, the final five episodes of Season 8 are currently available to stream for free on Peacock, so if you can't wait any longer and just want to skip ahead to the season's wild ending, you can do that there. But you better hurry, because "The Blacklist" will be expiring from Peacock in a few weeks.

The Blacklist season 8 debuted on NBC a month later which has not impacted its Netflix release date. Ahead of Season 9 starting on NBC on October 21st, Netflix US will be getting the eighth season in early October with other regions to follow. Here’s when you’ll be streaming The Blacklist season 8 on Netflix.

Filmed in New York, The Blacklist was not immune to the effects of the coronavirus outbreak but did fare considerably better compared to some other shows. As a result, its usual September/October start date was knocked back to November 2021.

Season 8 ran for 22 episodes with the 22nd episode wrapping up in late June 2021.

The show has also had its future secure due to the fact that NBC has already renewed the show for season 9 but it’s important to note that Sony Pictures Television is the main distributor of the show. Season 9 starts on NBC on October 21st, 2021.

When will The Blacklist season 8 be on Netflix in the United States?

Let’s start off with the United States. You may remember when Netflix picked up the license to The Blacklist it was, at the time, one of the biggest deals struck.

Netflix reportedly paid an eye-watering amount to stream each episode in the regions of $2 million per episode as per the original report.

Nevertheless, Netflix in the US doesn’t get weekly episodes of the show. Those are available via catch-up via NBC and Hulu.

Every season of The Blacklist has arrived like clockwork each September. That is what we were expecting for 2021 too but that’s failed to materialize.

Instead, we’ve got confirmation that season 8 of The Blacklist will arrive on Netflix US on October 6th, 2021 just a few weeks ahead of its season 9 debut.

What about other regions of Netflix?

If you’re in Canada, for the first time ever, season seven arrived around the same time as the United States this year, so you could also expect to see it by the end of 2021.

In fact, in the majority of Netflix regions now, they get it in a timely fashion, typically a few months after the season finale. We suspect that’ll happen again for season 8 but we’ll keep you posted.

Regions streaming The Blacklist outside of Netflix US & CA include:

  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Czech Republic
  • Greece
  • Hong Kong
  • India
  • Israel
  • Lithuania
  • Mexico
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Romania
  • Russia
  • Singapore
  • Slovakia
  • South Korea
  • Thailand
