About Bob Marley

Jamaican singer, musician, and songwriter Bob Marley served as a world ambassador for reggae music and sold more than 20 million records throughout his career.

Considered one of the pioneers of reggae, his musical career was marked by fusing elements of reggae, ska, and rocksteady, as well as his distinctive vocal and songwriting style. Marley’s contributions to music increased the visibility of Jamaican music worldwide and made him a global figure in popular culture for over a decade. [ 1]

Traveling to Europe, Marley underwent unconventional treatment in Germany and was subsequently able to fight off cancer for months. It soon became clear that Marley didn’t have much longer to live, however, so the musician set out to return to his beloved Jamaica one last time. Sadly, he would not manage to complete the journey, dying in Miami, Florida, on May 11, 1981. [ 2]
