Nikon 85mm 1.4 ais review năm 2024

I have currently owned the D and G versions and sold them both. Yes its weird that i want the even older version but i have my reasons. It has a bit to do with timing and that i want to pair my Nikon Df with an older 85 at this point. I can get a used version for a decent price now and just thought it might be a good idea at this point.

I shoot with a 105 1,4G on my D4 for most portrait work, and the 85G did not get used much because of that.

I miss the focal length sometimes but not very often, and not often enough to spend the cash for a newer version anyhow.

The Ai-s seems like a fun lens though and maybe on the Df a great lens to take some nice casual portraits with. I have the 105 2,5 Ai version which i also like a lot on the df.

Any suggestions or thoughts about the 85 are most welcome:)

Great lens optically but you're going to find it very difficult to focus accurately. The Df is as good as it gets in modern Nikon for manual focus but the focus screen is not designed for f1.4 lenses.

Thank you for your answer Yes i heard that from others as well. Maybe it is not worth it then, i do have some other great manual lenses and find them ok to fokus with like the 105 2,5 etc. But maybe this one is harder.

Will think it through a while first.

This is a nice lens on the Df. Of course it is harder to focus with any manual focusing lens on a modern DSLR, but that's what we use the confirmation dot in the view finder for. A split prism or other type of view finder would be easier, but unless a person modifies their camera, the confirmation dot is quite good. I have this lens, and hardly use it since I bought a like new Zeiss 85mm Planar ZF.2 lens. This lens has much better color rendition than the 85mm Nikon.

An excellent lens on the Df is the 105mm f/1.8 AIS. Happy shooting.

Since you already have the 105mm f/2.5 the 105mm f/1.8 lens might not be necessary for you. When I was shooting only film around 2004, I saw a lot of Nikon MF lenses for sale at reasonable prices. Quite a few Nikon owners were jumping ship to Canon, more mps in their digital cameras over Nikon at the time. There were also many owners that didn't want to MF anymore, and sold their lenses to bankrolls new Af lenses.

I took advantage of the situation and bought a lot of Nikon MF glass. I knew with the superior build quality these Nikkor lenses would be around after some of the AF motors in the new lenses died. I've got 3 105mm f/2.5 lenses, one pre AI lens, and two AI models. I had Nikon convert all my pre AI lenses to AIS when they still did this operation.

The 105mm f/1.8 was introduced in 1981, so it has better lens coating than the 2.5 versions, and is an AIS lens. Nikon increase the front element size to let in more light, so filter size increased to 62mm. And to make it nicer, it has a built in lens hood. If you want the increased low light capability, and shallower DOF the 105mm f/1.8 might be right for you.

You should check out the 105mm f/1.8 Ai-S. I love using that lens with my Df. I had the 85mm f/1.4 Ai-S as well but ended up selling it because it wasn’t getting any use. My other go-to lenses for the Df are the 28mm f/2.8 Ai-S and the 50mm f/1.2. That’s my “Unholy Trinity”.
