Electric Range Rover 2023

Important note on imagery & specifications.
We are living through exceptional times. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been prevented or delayed in the creation of new images of current model year vehicles. Furthermore, the global impact of micro-chip shortages is further affecting launch timings and build specifications, including options and accessories. Until these unique events are resolved, please note that many vehicle images cannot be updated to 2022/2023/2023.5 model year specifications. As a result, available features, options, trim and color schemes may differ from many images shown and therefore you should not rely solely on such images in making purchasing decisions. Please contact your local authorized Land Rover Retailer for detailed 2022/2023/2023.5 model year specifications.

Jaguar Land Rover Limited is constantly seeking ways to improve the specification, design and production of its vehicles, parts, options and/or accessories and alterations take place continually, and we reserve the right to make changes without notice. Some features may vary between optional and standard for different model year vehicles. The information, specification, engines and colors on this website are based on European specifications and may vary from market to market and are subject to change without notice. Update: ‘Set to arrive in late 2022’ section updated.

The 2023 Range Rover Plug in Hybrid (2023 Range Rover PHEV) has been announced, with significantly better specifications. Unlike its predecessor, it comes in two variants – P440e and P510e, packing a bigger engine for more performance and advanced electrification technologies for a long range. Note that only the former has been announced for the U.S. market. Let’s take a detailed look at the electrified variants.

Sprightly Performance

The 2023 Range Rover Plug in Hybrid (2023 Range Rover PHEV) sports a 3.0-liter Ingenium straight-six gasoline engine that works with a 104 kW (139 hp)/275 Nm (203 lb.-ft.) electric motor integrated with the transmission.

The Range Rover P440e (confirmed for the U.S.) gets 434 hp of system power and 405.7 lb.-ft. of system torque. The Range Rover P510e has a higher tuning of 510 PS (503 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb.-ft.), respectively. Both variants have an 8-speed automatic gearbox and an all-wheel drive system as standard. The towing capacity of both Range Rover P440e and Range Rover P510e is the same as that of the outgoing model’s P400e variant – 2,500 kg (5,512 lbs).

The plug-in hybrid variants can achieve top speeds of up to 87 mph on electric mode. In the P510e, a 0-60 mph sprint takes only 5.2 seconds, and the top speed is 150 mph. The P440e takes 6.0 seconds for a 0-60 mph sprint and achieves a top speed of 140 mph.

Excellent Electric Range

The 2023 Range Rover PHEV has a lithium-ion battery mounted under the cabin floor, within the wheelbase. Land Rover says it has engineered the battery casing using Boron steel to ensure safety in extreme 4×4 conditions. The battery shield can support the vehicle’s weight balanced on a single axle. It’s possible to fit a full-sized spare wheel in the plug-in hybrid SUV.

The lithium-ion battery has a usable capacity of 31.8 kWh, and it provides a pure electric range of up to 70 miles (WLTP) in both P440e and P510e. Realistically, however, Land Rover is expecting a 50-mile range in EV mode, which is considerable for this mammoth of an SUV. The company says that the all-new plug-in hybrid model should deliver a real-world combined range of around 400 miles (WLTP). The CO2 emission ratings of the P440e and P510e is 18 g/km (WLTP).

In the U.S., Land Rover is expecting the 2023 Range Rover Plug in Hybrid to deliver a real-world electric range of 48 miles. EPA will likely release its estimated electric range in the coming weeks.

When using the new Tailgate Event Suite feature, thanks to the 31.8 kWh battery, the dimmable spotlights can provide high-tensity task lighting for up to 88 hours instead of just two hours on the non-plug-in-hybrid variants.

The 2023 Range Rover PHEV optimizes electric energy usage based on eHorizon navigation data. Under hybrid operation, geo-fencing technology uses navigation and location data through eHorizon to automatically preserve and prioritize EV mode.

Suppose the selected route includes a low-emissions zone. In that case, the plug-in hybrid system will ensure that the battery has the electricity to offer EV mode driving while in that zone, even if that means driving only using petrol earlier. Moreover, the plug-in hybrid system preserves charging to drive in EV mode for the last 6 km (4 miles) of journeys in urban areas, ensuring a quiet and relaxed arrival at the destination.

Fast-charging capability

Few PHEVs globally offer DC fast-charging capability, and the Range Rover PHEV is one. It’s possible to charge the 31.8 kWh battery at up to 50 kW. Fast-charging to 80% SoC takes less than an hour. Using a domestic 7.2 kW AC wall box charger takes five hours to charge the battery fully. Below are the charging times of the P440e and P550e variants, both of which come with a 5-meter (16-feet) charging cable:

Charging Method Charging Time
Domestic Plug (UK) 15 hours to 100%
Home Charger / Wall box 7 kW 5 hours to 100%
DC Charger 50 kW 40 mins to 80%

Late 2022 arrival in the U.S.

The 2023 Range Rover PHEV is available to order in the U.S., where the 5-seat SWB version is available in the P440e variant and the standard grade. It should start arriving at dealers in late fall 2022. The plug-in hybrid SUV’s availability could be limited at launch and improve later in 2023.

The 2023 Range Rover P440e 5-seat SWB is priced at USD 108,400 plus a USD 1,350 destination/handling fee. Land Rover has not confirmed, but the top-of-the-line 503 hp P510e variant could be considered for the U.S. in future model years depending on customer feedback.

Electric Range Rover 2023

With a Master’s Degree in Business Management & Administration, I’ve been working as an International Automotive News Editor since 2014, and have gained a wealth of knowledge and insight into hybrid and electric vehicles.

Is the 2023 Range Rover electric?

A longer wheelbase at last enables a three-row model and paves the way for a plug-in hybrid with meaningful range as well as a full battery-electric version.

Is Range Rover coming out with an electric version?

But the even bigger news is that the new Range Rover Sport, in addition to being offered with mild hybrid, plug-hybrid, and traditional V8 power, will have an all-electric version coming in 2024.

Is there a 2023 Range Rover?

The 2023 Range Rover Sport takes the title as the automaker's most capable build. In addition to the V8, the other engine trims include a base P360 SE with a turbocharged inline-six-cylinder and a 48-volt hybrid system producing 355 horsepower. The P400 SE Dynamic uses a similar setup tuned to churn out 395 horsepower.

Will the 2023 Range Rover Sport be redesigned?

Land Rover recently unveiled the all-new redesigned Range Rover and Range Rover Sport as part of its 2023 model lineup. The manufacturer purposefully gave each a modernized face-lift but retained favorite aspects of previous generations, leaving critics thrilled.
