Can I connect two laptops with Ethernet cable?
I wanted to share my data between the two laptops and here is what I did in the following order:
Why still in connections the cables are shown as unplugged, assuming that the OS on both the laptops is Windows 8.1, belong to same workgroup and the cable was checked beforehand and is alright. Is there any compatibility issue with the driver? The common RJ45 network cables are actually "patch cables". They are wired to connect a computer to a hub or a switch. For connecting two computers directly to each other you need to use a "crossover cable". These are usually part of the network technician toolbox but not very common otherwise. You may sometime find it in a computer shop or you can build it yourself with adequate tools and patience but it is just much simplier, and probably not much more expensive, to just have two regular network cables connecting you computers via a small passive network switch. There is also a Microsoft support article on this topic here: Connect two computers using a crossover cable When setting up a direct connection, there are few things you should keep in mind:
You have to leave the Default gateway field empty on first machine and fill it with first machine's IP on second one. Here's an example config: First machine: Second machnie: (use this or enable Obtain an IP address automatically)
This setup should work, but you may experience some issues such as high packet loss with UDP connections. A CROSSOVER cable is the same CAT 5 UTP you have, but with a different combination of the internal pins. You need to go to a store and ask for a Crossover LAN cable. The one you have needs a router, switch or hub between both machines. Video liên quan |
