HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

Latest pricing, specs and HP gaming PC review. Updated March 2022. How many PC games will it run? Is it a good choice for a PC gamer? Should you buy this HP computer?

For a PC gamer, the most important component in the system is the graphics card. This is the supermodel part that will make or break the setup and is responsible for making all your games look awesome. The more powerful the graphics card the higher, smoother frame rates you will get, the higher resolution you can run at, and the better your games will look. For graphics, this HP computer has a Intel UHD 630. We rate this Intel GPU as powerful enough to run 205 games at a recommended level.

Next on the list has to be the CPU. The processor at the heart of your gaming desktop is the brains of the outfit, and is vital for making sure that you can get the most out of your graphics card when it comes to gaming performance. The number of cores isn’t vital for games, beyond four cores you get diminishing returns, but you want to make sure what you do have run at a high frequency. The HP Envy Desktop Computer has a Intel Core i7-9700 capable of running at 3 GHz. That level of power from an Intel chip means it is rated to run 982 of the most popular 1000 PC games at a recommended level.

The level of RAM in a gaming desktop is also important. More system memory allows your PC to churn through large amounts of data quickly, and for today’s massive open gameworlds it’s vital to have that information accessed quickly to speed up game loads. Having too little RAM can mean laggy frames and a poor experience.

This rig comes with 16GB of system RAM. Better than most dedicated gaming PC setups, according to the Steam Hardware Survey, and will be perfect if you’re aiming to do more with your desktop, such as streaming.

Unfortunately, this pre-built gaming PC won't run games like GTA V, PUBG, Red Dead Redemption 2, Apex Legends, Minecraft and Fortnite at a recommended level.

Coming in at $ this rig falls into our affordable category of gaming PCs under $500. The setup can run 213 of our target games at recommended level.

For parts prices most here use PCPartPicker to find which vendor has best prices. For advice on how to assemble them and install OS and Drivers, Newegg has a couple good tutorial videos. For a gaming specific build you want to prioritize GPU, CPU, RAM, and MB, in that order. The other parts like Case, PSU, and HDD come down to personal preference, and what you can afford. The PSU however should have at least the minimum recommended total system power to run the GPU. Here's a handy chart for that.

The main problem there is the i5-6400 and 3GB VRAM limitation on the 1060. It means you won't be able to run max textures on some games (VRAM) and be a bit CPU limited on some games as well, even at 1080p. That goes for Star Wars Battlefront II and many other current games that are hardware demanding. As I always say, you get more bang for buck when building from scratch, and OEM PCs have OEM vs retail box CPUs, which don't have a 3 year warranty.

I doubt if that rig has a very good PSU either. OEM PCs often lack good enough PSUs for upgrades, and sometimes they're not even very good for the parts they come with.

Thank you for your suggestion!!

What would be a good place for me to start looking if I want build a PC from scratch? I've never done it before, so I'm a little bit hesitant about it..

Sometimes film can be left behind from 70% so it would be better to use 90% or above alcohol but it is safe, some people even clean motherboards with it even though I do not suggest it.

It is really preference. If you mean buy a new PC then it would be cheaper to upgrade since buying PC's will always cost more. But other than that it is all up to you. Make sure parts are compatible though

I want to leave my PC on overnight to download some games on Steam (which is okay, won't do harm) however what do you guys do that I should do to install games overnight? Must my PC with its monitor stay on that you can see desktop or can the screen turn off after like 5 minutes (not sleep mode.)

Your PC can continue to download while the screen is off as long as your tower is still running.

Add a 240-250gb SSD for~70 pounds, still cheaper but better than your choice. You can search more on Amazon with the specs you want

Shows how much I know ha!

Thanks for taking the time to pick out some alternatives.

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

If you are willing to build your own, you can get better builds with same or cheaper cost. I assume you only want prebuilts. Just keep in mind, upgrading prebuilts will usually be a pain. Stay 7th gen I5/I7, 16gb ram. Don't waste on FX or Athlon etc junks, Ryzen 5 is good alternative to I5/I7 but couldn't see too many for prebuilts yet.

Ok great thanks. Yes I was only looking at pre-built; your input is much appreciated.

I am currently using Dell inspiron 3647 i3 4th gen 4150, and want to upgrade to a gaming PC, budget around 35k or 40, please suggest. Thank you

0

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

I believe that is about $600... To be really honest, i'd get a fresh new build. That prebuilt PC got a awful PSU(220W from the official website if i'm not wrong) and it's not fit to power up any decent GPU. A i3 isn't the best choice as well, upgrading in the 4th gen will be very expensive as well(probably) as those pieces aren't made anymore. You would as well have to get more RAM, and DDR4 is the main thing now, getting old kits isn't really wise...

IMHO i'd get a gaming budget rig with Ryzen 3 1200 or G4600. And there are a ton of them here, search them up or if you insist, we can build you a new one.

I’m looking to build a gaming/vr pc that is pretty much up to par to play VR. I have the Vive and my pc currently crashes every once in a while and that really takes me out of it so I’m thinking it’s time to upgrade. I currently have a GTX 970 and I have a $700 budget but if it goes a little over that budget I’m ok with that. I think I can bring GTX 970 over into the new pc but all my other specs are very old so that’s where the upgrade is needed. Thanks for the help boys

Strategy sci-fi pc windows game from years between 1995-2000, maybe 2001... The concept of the game was that you have two views main 2D map devided into regions from this view you could choose region you want to attack or your own region to place buildings like defense tower in

I'd take it you are looking for a very specific game then. Unfortunately I either don't know the game you are talking about, quite possible since I would of been 4 years old in 1995, or just the description isn't getting it to me. Wouldn't mind trying it if you recall the name though. Good luck. There is a big list of scifi games here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chronology_of_real-time_strategy_video_games

You might be lucky and be able to remember the name enough to find it.

Thank you very much for your fast answer. I have already check the wiki sites against strategy, turn base strategy, rts games but it seems it isn't on the list there :/ I try use gameslikefinder.com site but there is no simmilar like 'dune'.

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

I have a B35OM Mortar with a Ryzen 1 1200 and 4 GB RAM at 3200MHZ . Well my system was perfectly fine i was running all my games and the system was running smoothly , i had OC my CPU at 3.6 GHz (3.1 Factory clocked) and RAM 2667 MHz (my RAM is 3200MHz but it was not supported) My GPU is really old and bad so i have some FPS freezes here and there but still i can play my games perfectly . I recently downloaded the BIOS "update" in order to OC my RAM at 3200 MHz . I download the "update" and the first thing i find out is that if i have Game Booster ON i cannot OC my CPU (i could with the previous version of BIOS) also if i turn OFF Game Booster in order to OC my CPU i have to change the CPU Ratio to something like 36.00 (means 3600 MHz-3.6 GHz) (in previous version i just typed in 3600 MHz and thats it) Now here comes the problem . My computer runs Suuuuuuuper slow , everything just freezes from time to time even when idle and in-game .... oh boy ... CS:GO takes about 4 times more to load , I have less FPS than i used to and if I Alt-Tab and then go back to CS:GO it crashes , also every 3 minutes or so it has an FPS freeze for like 5-30 secs . And a lot of the times when it fps freezes it also crashes ! Keep in mind before i update BIOS i was running CPU --> 3.6 GHz and RAM --> 2667 MHz . After the "update" i was running CPU --> 3.6 GHz and RAM --> 3200 MHz , so only the RAM frequency went up and everything broke down . I also tried running CPU --> 3.6 GHz and RAM --> 2667 MHz as i did before and still everything was horrible . I tried every setting , every combination i even had everything running on default speed but nope , still nothing was working . I 've tried every god damn thing there is nothing alse left , i used A-XMP i used Game Booster with A-XMP i used it without A-XMP i used A-XMP without game booster at 3.6 GHz , at 3.5 , 3.4 , 3.3 , 3.2 , 3.1 . I tried without A-XMP at 3.6 GHz , at 3.5 , 3.4 , 3.3 , 3.2 , 3.1 and RAM 3200 MHZ , 2667 . 2133 (every combination possible) Nothing works ! Some combinations are better than others but before the "update" everything was just fine . First questions is WHY ? I have noo freaking clue wtf is going on and why this is happening so plz explain me what is going wrong ... and second question how can i fix this mess . Plz help me i can't do a thing and i am quite irritated as well ... i need your help plz

put back all the settings to default on cpu and ram then try the cmos reset if your system is under overclock on bios update that might made issue you migh also use the live update to check if bios did go on .

0

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

Well i did install the update using Live Updater so yeah it did go on , (i checked it as well) i put the settings to default but did not do much , i am going to try a cmos reset when i get some free time . If that does not work either , what would you suggest me to do ?

0

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

for now that is the only option i see others might have one stick around .

0

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

Rolling back to previous BIOS version is always a 'last resort' option, if all else fails.

0

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

Yes of course but i would prefer if i could fix the problem , if not i will be glad to go back Thx for your replies guys ! Tomorrow afternoon i will try it out and see what happens ! If you have any other suggestions plz write them down . Thanks a lot !

Page 13

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

Hi guys. I have a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050ti Windforce OC G1. Every game is running fine except GTA 4. Actually I think it is detecting my available video memory (sometimes) but it does not uses it. I have update patch 1.0.7.0 installed. According to Rockstar, they have launched an update 1.0.8.0 which fixes this problem https://support.rock...-Notes-PC-Only- but I can't use it. See this: "Hi guys. This is Mirza Taimoor Baig from Karachi, Pakistan. Recently I got a new GPU Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050ti Windforce OC G1. I placed it in my PC, installed a fresh Windows 10 Home x64. Updated all drivers and softwares. Every game started running absolutely fine. I installed GTA 4 completely. I DID NOT INSTALLED RGSC. Then I downloaded GTA IV Patch 1080. Installed it. And now when I try to launch the game I get this error: "The ordinal 5372 could not be located in the dynamic link library E:\Games\Grand Theft Auto IV\GTAIV.exe" I searched internet and downloaded a file named xliveless. Pasted in my GTA IV folder. And now I am getting this error: "GTA IV FATAL ERROR: EFC20. Invalid resource detected - Please re-install the game." I again searched internet and downloaded a folder named "src" containing these files: compile(batch file), compile_with_trace(batch file), stdafx.h, xlive.def, xlive.lib, xliveless.cpp, xliveless.h I pasted them in my gta 4 folder. Still getting that fatal error. Please help. This is my first question on this forum. Thanks in advance. ***NOTE*** Patch 1.0.7.0 works fine with this setup of gta 4. But it has a bug and do not supports my GPU" So the only way left right now is using patch 1.0.7.0. so is there way to get rid of this problem without installing patch 1.0.8.0?

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

0

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

Why dont you want to update to the patch that fixes this? Where did you download the game from? And why are you randomly downloading files to paste in directories? Doesnt sound like you have a legit version of GTA IV.

0

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

I have a legit version of gta 4. I purchased it's dvd from Lahore Expo Centre in 2008. It has been kept safely for all these years and now when I have a capable gpu I am trying to play it and its not working.

I already mentioned the errors that I am getting after installing the patch 1.0.8.0. Why dont you read the description carefully again.

0

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

You cant get rid of it without the patch. The patch fixes the issue you face. I read it carefully the first time, and I still have no idea why you downloaded random files to fix that. And you said you didnt install the RGSC? Do you mean the Rockstar Social Club?

check your cpu cooler if it´s still in place and plane on the CPU. At which speed does the fan spin? Does it spin at all?

Check temperature with amd overdrive. If the thermal margin is negative, you will have to replace the thermal paste between the cooler and the CPU.

I'd be playing games such as battlefield 1/4, skyrim (modded), ARK, Watch_dogs, The crew and maybe pubg. would this computer be good enough to play some of these with at least 40fps on an acceptable resolution?
https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/rysg2R are there any parts u recommend i replace that are similar priced to what i have? i live in australia and the prices are really f*cking crazy right now and i've never done this before. should i wait? will the prices go down soon?

Thanks

0

That CPU and GPU would struggle with BF1, and maybe even Watch Dogs. Not much you can do about it with your pricing down there, except wait until you can save a bit more.

0

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

@Frag Maniac - struggle ??? That's pretty subjective I think. 40fps at medium ?? That's not going to be a problem at all.

40fps at medium ?? That's not going to be a problem at all.

If such settings and FPS are OK for him, he'll get buy for now, but keep in mind demanding games like that going forward might be less friendly on settings and FPS. Generally the way it works for gaming is you want to be as future ready as possible, because games tend to get more demanding, not less.

About a month ago I started having an issue with my computer. When I play games in fullscreen they run fine for about an hour, then minimize all on their own. I can return to the game by clicking on them in the taskbar but about a minute after going back to it the game minimizes again. Once I maximize it for the second time it stays up for around an hour before this process repeats itself. The only solution I've found so far has been to play games in borderless fullscreen, but this is not ideal. I'm using Windows 10 in case that has any bearing.

0

HP ENVY Desktop Gaming

No the windows version has no bearing in this issue. Actually, it seems that some Anti Virus software/ Application or other software pop up is occuring that is minimizing your games. happened to be once. Just check the task manager to take note applications and services running in background while launching the game. take screenshots to observe which were the running tasks/applications/services.

Now right after the minimize, open up the task manager again and repeat the process. You may find some additional process or app has showed up. That particular program causes the minimizing. Do disable it and voila! Things should get back to normal.

I found what I think is the culprit. A background process called Akamai NetSession Instal... (the rest was cut off due to the size of the task manager). I'm now looking into how to handle this. I'm not sure what exactly uses Akamai NetSession and based on a browse through the companies they work with I found a few companies that are relevant to my interests. Among them are MSI, the maker of my laptop. If I disable or remove Akamai NetSession on/from my computer is there a chance I could break something? I guess what I'm asking specifically is does Akamai have anything to do directly with the playing of games or running of software that I might need to keep it around for?

Yes that may well be the cause for minimize. It is a secure application which is mainly used for media streaming, video chats etc. through a specific server service. It is not that important for any hardware or software related functions of your laptop and it is not mandatory. So try uninstalling that software while gaming and if you are doing some heavy duty streaming or video chats, you can always install it back.

RTINGS.com is a good place to go to look at reviews of various TVs used for gaming, because they test input lag, motion blur, response time, etc. 4K is more luxury than necessity, and unless you can afford a very expensive GPU like the 1080 Ti, I advise against it, because it takes a lot of power to drive that many pixels. If you plan to do the wall mount yourself and have never done such a thing, just make sure you read reviews on the model you narrow your choice down to, because some TVs are much harder than others to wall mount. You may have to get at least one right angle HDMI cable if any HDMI ports used are back facing vs side facing, and some TVs have the PSU attached to the power cord, which can also cause wall mounting issues.

If you're going to be gaming and powering 4 monitors at the same time, you're going to need more oomph than the GTX1050. If you're going for a dual monitor setup, the GTX1060 6GB should be your minimum.
